有缘看到这部剧，一开始看起来以为是一种记述，慢慢以为是自然科学类的书，再看下去又觉得是一本关于哲学，关于人类，自然和个体的书，一开始跟女儿讨论科学家关于鳗鱼雌雄同体的研究，她说，研究这个有用吗？跟我们有什么关系？我不知道如何回答，很多时候人们往往对与己无关的事情都会漠然置之，会简单的认为，只有生活，工作，人际关系，等等这些是与自己有关的，就算研究，也要事先假设研究成果会如何改善当前的某些状态，比如研究中草药是为了治病，研究化肥是为了让粮食丰收，然而有很多领域没有人去碰，一来因为短期看起来没有什么用，二来很难，需要漫长的时间几代人的积累，所以我更崇拜那些试图发现自然规律，寻找最底层自然逻辑的人，鳗鱼的存在很神秘，也向我们昭示生命的哲学，就像我们经常无法说清楚自己的存在一样，从哪里来，到哪里去，我来的意义何在，几十年的意义何在，有时候我会偏执的认为，人来到这个世界上，工作创造的价值远不如生殖创造的价值，性与爱二者构成了人类感性存在及活动的最根本、最深层的生命冲动，虽然我生活在没有信仰的地方，但某个时刻不自觉感受到来自信仰的力量。你不懂鳗鱼，其实也不懂自己，不懂人类这个族群。
